FORMER OWNER OF GLOBE RUBBER WORKS, INC. PASSES AWAY
Richard Somerville, 71, was known and loved by many

Dallas, TX. Richard (“Dick”) C. Somerville, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at home after a sudden illness. Mr. Somerville, 71, was the former owner of Globe Rubber Works Inc., a company he worked for since 1957. He purchased Globe Rubber Works, Inc. in 1985 and later sold the assets of the company to Globe Composite Solutions, Ltd. in August 2004. Mr. Somerville remained as Director of Research & Development of Globe Composite Solutions until his retirement from the company in January 2005.

“Our employees, directors, suppliers and customers are deeply saddened by the loss of Dick Somerville. He mentored and guided many individuals over the years. There was widely known slogan at Globe Rubber Works that Dick was the ‘Pioneer in Formulating the Non-Metallic Age’”, said Carl W. Forsythe, President and CEO of Globe Composite Solutions, Ltd. “Although Dick is now gone, he had a long-lasting impact on the lives of many, many people. Our prayers go out to his wife, Anne, his daughter, Wendy, and son, Gregg” he added.

Mr. Somerville was born in Boston on March 20, 1934. He was raised and educated in Brighton, MA and lived in Duxbury for the past 25 years. After graduating high school, Mr. Somerville joined the Navy. He served during the Korean War and later served in the Naval Air Reserves. He is survived by his wife, Anne P. (Roche) Somerville, one son Gregg C. Somerville of Plymouth, one daughter, Wendy A. Gibson, one brother, Murray L. Somerville of Waltham and two grandchildren, Andrew R. Somerville and Samantha G. Somerville.

The employees of Globe Composite Solutions conducted a prayer service on June 15 at their facility in Rockland, MA. The Somerville family held a memorial service on Saturday, June 18 at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Duxbury, MA. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701
